IPMAT 2027: eligibility, pattern and preparation at a glance
IPMAT is the entrance test for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak, which each run their own paper. Neither institute had announced IPMAT 2027 dates as of 31 October 2026. In the 2026 cycle, IIM Indore held its test on 4 May 2026 and IIM Rohtak listed 10 May 2026 as a tentative date. Both papers lasted 120 minutes and carried 4 marks per question, with 1 mark deducted for most wrong answers.

What the IPM programme is
IIM Indore's IPM page describes a programme of 15 terms over five years. The first three years cover mathematics, statistics, economics, psychology, sociology, political science and humanities. In years four and five, IPM students study alongside students of the two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Arts (Foundations of Management) and an MBA under a dual degree, and there is an exit option after year three.
The same page lists a course fee of Rs 6,00,000 a year for the first three years, subject to revision. Fees, seats and rules are set per batch, so read the notification for your own cycle.

Dates and schedule
Neither institute has published a 2027 test date, application window or interview schedule as of 31 October 2026. IIM Indore posted its 2026 test date on 8 October 2025. No matching notice for 2027 was on its admissions page on 31 October 2026.
The 2026 cycle shows the usual order of events. These are last cycle's dates, not the 2027 schedule.

Eligibility and number of attempts
The two institutes set different conditions. The table shows the 2026-31 batch rules from each institute's own page.

Neither 2026 notice states a cap on attempts. At IIM Indore, the Class XII pass-year window sets the limit in practice: a student who passed in 2025 could still apply in 2026. At IIM Rohtak, the age limit does the same job. The 2027 windows will come from the new notifications, so do not assume the 2026 years carry over.

Exam pattern
The two papers share a length and a marking unit but differ in structure.

IIM Indore combines the three sections with weights of 25, 25 and 50 to form the aptitude test score. Verbal ability therefore carries half of that score. Candidates must attempt the sections in a fixed order that is the same for everyone, and the procedure notes that its table of timings does not show that order. At IIM Rohtak, a candidate who also picks the Integrated Programme in Law option sits an extra legal reasoning section of 20 questions in 20 minutes.
Neither official page opened for this guide gives a topic-wise syllabus. IIM Indore's IPM page describes its test as one of aptitude, logical reasoning and proficiency in English and Mathematics. Check the 2027 notification for anything more specific.

IIM Indore's IPM page still mentions a Written Ability Test alongside the interview. The 2026-31 admission procedure, which sets out the stages in order, names only the aptitude test and the personal interview, so this guide follows the procedure. Read the 2027 procedure when it is out.

Institutes that use IPM AT scores
IIM Rohtak admits on its own test. IIM Indore's 2026 notice listed other institutions that used its IPM AT 2026 scores: IIM Sirmaur, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Amritsar, IIM Shillong, Alliance University, IIFT, GLS University, the Institute of Management at Nirma University, LM Thapar School of Management, IFMR Graduate School of Business at Krea University, and the Department of Management Studies at NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad. Each runs its own admission process after the test. The 2027 list has not been announced.

How to prepare
The pattern tells you where the marks are. Use it to split your time.

At IIM Rohtak, 120 questions in 120 minutes leaves about a minute per question, so speed practice matters. At IIM Indore, each section is timed separately, so finishing one early does not buy time for another.
Students preparing in Hyderabad can find approved maths tutors for the quantitative sections and English tutors for verbal ability. The IPM curriculum includes mathematics, statistics and economics in its first three years, so Class XII foundations in those subjects stay useful after admission. Common mistakes
Treating the short-answer section like multiple choice is one. With no options and no negative marking, a blank answer earns nothing. Over-guessing multiple-choice questions is the opposite error, since each wrong answer costs a mark. Another is mixing up the marks rules: IIM Indore counts all subjects on the mark sheet, while IIM Rohtak counts the best five and asks for 60%. Candidates also forget that the two institutes have separate applications, fees and tests, and that one form does not cover both. Finally, some rely on dates from earlier years. Only the institute's own notification sets the 2027 schedule.

Neither institute's 2026 notice states a cap on attempts. IIM Indore limits applicants by Class XII pass year, and IIM Rohtak limits them by age. Check the 2027 notification for the exact window.
Is there negative marking in IPMAT?+
Yes, in most sections. IIM Rohtak deducts 1 mark for every wrong answer. IIM Indore deducts 1 mark for wrong answers in its multiple-choice sections but not in the short-answer quantitative section.
Who is eligible for IPMAT?+
