BITSAT 2027 exam guide: dates, eligibility and pattern at a glance
BITS Pilani has not announced BITSAT 2027 dates as of 31 October 2026. The official pages still carry the BITSAT-2026 brochure. In the 2026 cycle BITSAT was a three-hour computer-based test of 130 multiple-choice questions in Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency, Logical Reasoning and Mathematics, held in two sessions with a maximum of two attempts. Applicants needed 75% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class XII, and at least 60% in each. Treat these as the 2026 rules until the 2027 brochure appears.

BITSAT 2027 dates
The 2027 application opening, session dates, fee and eligibility are not yet announced as of 31 October 2026. BITS says on its BITSAT page that the call for applications is normally released in December or January each year. That describes past practice, not a 2027 date, so wait for the official brochure.
For reference, this is how the 2026 cycle ran, from the BITSAT-2026 brochure.
| Event | 2026 cycle |
|---|---|
| Applications opened | 15 December 2025 |
| Session 1 application deadline | 19 March 2026 |
| Session 1 tests | 15 to 17 April 2026 |
| Session 2 application window | 20 April to 5 May 2026 |
| Session 2 tests | 25 to 27 May 2026 |
| Class XII marks and programme preferences | Opened 29 April 2026, closed in early June 2026 |
A candidate could choose Session 1 only or both sessions at the first application. Someone who wanted only Session 2 had to apply in the second window. In 2026 the fee for one session at an Indian centre was ₹3,600 for male candidates and ₹3,100 for female and transgender candidates. Both sessions cost ₹5,600 and ₹4,600. The fee was non-refundable.
03
BITSAT eligibility
These are the BITSAT-2026 rules. BITS has not yet published the 2027 equivalent.
For B.E. and most M.Sc. programmes, a candidate needed Class XII under the 10+2 system from a recognised Central or State board, or an equivalent qualification. At least five subjects were required: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, one language and one more subject. The candidate needed an aggregate of 75% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and at least 60% in each of the three. Theory and practical marks both count.
B.Pharm., B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering and M.Sc. Biological Sciences accepted Biology or Mathematics as the third subject, with the same 75% and 60% thresholds. Students from the PCB stream needed Class 10 level mathematics.
On timing, a student appearing for Class XII in 2026 or one who passed in 2025 could sit BITSAT-2026. Those who passed in 2024 or earlier could not. Cambridge candidates needed the required subjects at A level, and IB candidates at Higher Level. Students already enrolled at a BITS campus were not eligible.

BITSAT exam pattern
The 2026 test ran for 3 hours without a break. Every question was multiple choice with four options and one correct answer. A correct answer earned 3 marks, a wrong answer cost 1 mark, and unattempted questions earned nothing.
| Part | Subject | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| I | Physics | 30 |
| II | Chemistry | 30 |
| III (a) | English Proficiency | 10 |
| III (b) | Logical Reasoning | 20 |
| IV | Mathematics (Biology for B.Pharm., B.E. Environmental and Sustainability Engineering and M.Sc. Biological Sciences) | 40 |
| Total | 130 |
There was no time limit for individual parts, and a candidate could go back and change any of the 130 answers. A candidate who answered all 130 questions and still had time left could attempt 12 extra questions, three each from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology, and Logical Reasoning. Once a candidate opted into the extra questions, going back to change earlier answers was no longer allowed. BITS designed the paper so that a good student can answer 130 questions in 180 minutes, which is a little over 80 seconds a question.
Questions are drawn at random from a large bank, so candidates get different sets of comparable difficulty. Calculators and phones are not allowed. The score appears on screen at the end of the test. A candidate may appear at most twice in a cycle, and for admission BITS uses the higher of the two scores.
05
Syllabus
BITS says the questions are based on the current NCERT syllabus, and the brochure's Annexure-1 lists topics part by part. It sets out 18 topics in Physics, from units and measurement to electronic devices, and 14 in Chemistry, from states of matter to the principles of experimental chemistry. Mathematics has 12, including algebra, trigonometry, two- and three-dimensional coordinate geometry, calculus, vectors, statistics and linear programming.
English Proficiency tests grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension and composition. Logical Reasoning splits into verbal reasoning (analogy, classification, series, logical deduction, chart logic) and nonverbal reasoning (pattern perception, figure formation, paper cutting, figure matrix, rule detection). Together these two parts are 30 of the 130 questions, almost a quarter of the paper.
06
Campuses and test centres
BITSAT scores in 2026 fed admissions to three Indian campuses: Pilani in Rajasthan, K K Birla Goa and Hyderabad. The brochure listed B.E. branches at each campus, so check the current list before choosing preferences.
| Campus | Programmes listed in the 2026 brochure |
|---|---|
| Pilani | B.E. (including Manufacturing and Pharmaceutical Engineering), B.Pharm., M.Sc. |
| K K Birla Goa | B.E. (including Electronics and Computer Engineering), M.Sc. |
| Hyderabad | B.E. (including Civil and Pharmaceutical Engineering), B.Pharm., M.Sc. |
BITSAT scores also opened applications for 2+2 joint programmes with universities abroad and a 3+2 B.E. plus MBA route with BITSOM in Mumbai. In 2026 BITS also offered direct admission, regardless of BITSAT score, to first-rank students of State and Central boards. The 2026 tentative centre list included the BITS Hyderabad Campus, Hyderabad city, Karimnagar and Warangal in Telangana, and Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry and Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. The final list depended on applications received.
07
How to prepare for BITSAT
Start with Mathematics, which is the biggest block at 40 questions, then Physics and Chemistry at 30 each. Strengthening those with approved maths tutors, physics tutors and chemistry tutors in Hyderabad, or online, helps most students who are also preparing for JEE Main. The JEE Main exam guide covers that exam's pattern.
Practise speed. Under the 3-hour limit, BITSAT rewards finishing the 130 questions with minutes to spare, because only then do the 12 extra questions open. Time yourself on mixed sets and learn to skip a stuck question and return later.
Do not skip the 30 English and reasoning questions. They need regular short practice, not a last-week cram. Students who want structured help with the English part can ask for approved English tutors.
Mind the penalty. A wrong answer costs 1 mark against 3 for a right one, and BITS itself warns that pure guessing is unlikely to help. Answer when you can defend the option.
08
Common mistakes
Some students treat Class XII marks as an afterthought. Eligibility depends on 75% in PCM and 60% in each subject, and in 2026 candidates had to submit their Class XII marks and programme preferences in a separate admission application.
Another is missing the second application window. In 2026 a candidate who skipped Session 1 could still apply for Session 2, but only during the second window.
A third is trusting agents. BITS posts a warning on its admissions site about fraudulent calls, emails, SMS and social media messages that claim to offer direct admission. Use only the official admissions website.
09
What to do next
Wait for the BITSAT-2027 brochure on the official site, then check eligibility, dates and fee against it. Until then, finish Class XII syllabus revision, and practise timed mixed papers in the 2026 format.
